RealityTV thumb Reality Attyachar

Last year NDTV Imagine, the Hindi-entertainment channel, ran wild it’s imagination. It roped in Bollywood’s ultimate drama queen Rakhi Sawant and launched a reality show Rakhi Sawant ka Swayamvar. Mock her, hate her, love her, loathe her but the show clocked a good TRP boosting the revenues of the channel. That ultimately Rakhi Sawant only had an “engagement” and in next couple of months the relationship was called off all made it very clear it was just a staged act. Call it buffoonery or reality, NDTV has come up with a second season of swayamvar, this time Rahul Mahajan, son of late BJP leader Pramod Mahajan,  is trying his best to be a drama king.

Rahul Dulhaniya Le Jayega started Feb 1 and has 15 shortlisted women vying to win the heart of Rahul. The drug episode that hogged limelight few years back nor the broken marriage where he was accused of beating his wife seem to have stopped some 16,000 women show interest in him and send application to participate in the show. Well, that is what the channel claims. Not everyone can be a Rakhi Swant was quiet evident from the first episode of Rahul’s show. Rahul Mahajan can never be a drama king that such kind of show requires. He seems to be visibly embarrassed himself landing in this role. The show is just atrocious and horrible.

ataychar thumb Reality Attyachar If Rahul Dulhaniya Le Jayega is buffoonery and an outright crap in the disguise of Reality show, Bindaas has a potent, shocking show on air by name Emotional Attyachar.

This is what  Bindaas TV website has to say about their show:

If you think your boyfriend or girlfriend might be cheating on you; or if you know of a couple where one person might be cheating on the other, do your duty as a good human being and report it to us! Our crack team of investigators will discover what the truth is. Because after all, wouldn’t you rather know?

Do your duty as a good human being and report it? Holy Idiot box! Who gave the powers to the media to perform a sting operation on an individual to see if he passes fidelity test, even if somebody is cheating on their partner? Snoop on people’s private spaces and see what they do? I am not sure what is the legal standings of such shows. Imagine if one of the exposed guy/girl commits suicide due to shame of being captured on screen… Who takes the blame? For those who have not watched this show, If someone suspects a partner to be cheating, the show crew sets up a catch. In this case a cover-up agent who mingles, lures the partner and see if he/she succumbs to the lust and fails in the fidelity test. How spicy isn’t it to boost TRP ratings?

Welcome to new age of reality shows – Get your FQ (Fidelity Quotient) tested without your permission, ofcourse and if you are bit lucky you can be part of a swayamvar circus.

well said. I hate reality shows that starts from Maanada mayilada. crazy people.

    • Lakshmi Rajan on February 3, 2010 at 6:36 pm

My parents like Maanada Mayilada :) but I think dance and singing reality shows are better than the outright craps like swayamvars, emotional attyachar etc …

      • Bharathi on February 3, 2010 at 6:51 pm

the thing that I dont like is the comments by Kala master and co. they do it as if it concerns the survival of entire universe.

Reality TV is the biggest addiction for our audience today…sadly there arent ecough intelligent reality shows…most concentrate on drama baazee – with very little thought to the plot.

    • Lakshmi Rajan on February 3, 2010 at 6:38 pm

:reallyangry: And the TRP competition is making the channels to stoop to the lowest and come up with crap drama baazeez

I remember I read that the swyamvars used to happen during the time when Kings ruled India. The reality shows want to broadcast any sort of nonsence to catch the attention of the viewers.

I saw the Rakhi savant “rotee kahani” once and I was really shocked to see such a blunder on telivision and when I read that it was a hit, I wonder how worse the new generation viewers have become…

    • Lakshmi Rajan on February 3, 2010 at 6:39 pm

Unfortunately audience seem to be enjoying the bafoonery on air :hypnotized:

  4. Ambi on February 3, 2010 at 12:37 pm

Anyone who has been to USA should have probably gotten a chance to watch shows like Maury, Jerry Springer… the same crap is now in India too? :-(

    • Lakshmi Rajan on February 3, 2010 at 6:43 pm

We are catching up very fast with western craps  It is difficult to absorb good things from others but not the bad apples :talktothehand:

  5. Shilpa on February 3, 2010 at 12:54 pm

I second you about that who would take the blame if anything like that happens after people got to see themselves exposed on screen. I wonder how sensor people pass such shows.

  6. Dhiman on February 3, 2010 at 2:20 pm

Yes I too saw one episode of ‘Emotional Aatyachar’ utterly crap and truly what kind of girls would try to woo someone like Rahul Mahajan …. real degradation of Indian TV shows…. :pissedoff:

    • Lakshmi Rajan on February 3, 2010 at 6:48 pm

RM looks idiotic and a girl was saying I love your nature  Kali Yug ! for sure

  7. Sonia Thomas on February 3, 2010 at 2:26 pm

Its sad.. really sad and the funny bit is that they are people addicted to such shows. Someone getting humiliated on screen gets people excited… Pathetic!!

    • Lakshmi Rajan on February 3, 2010 at 6:50 pm

 People seem to have cultivated the enjoyment of seeing people getting humiliated on screen. This is dangerous I wonder what could be the next show ? – Catching in-laws fight on screen? or husband wife fighting at home?

  8. S.R.Ayyangar on February 3, 2010 at 6:23 pm

I wish such shows disappear just as the one titled ‘Raz Pichle Janam Ka’!

    • Lakshmi Rajan on February 3, 2010 at 6:51 pm

Unfortunately many such shows are enjoying good TRPs . Realit bites but true. :sidefrown:

  9. Pramathesh B on February 3, 2010 at 7:25 pm

Well, there is a reality show where atheists are tried to believe in God and converted to a religion. Considering this, they are nothing.

P.S. It is not swayamvar, it would be swayamvadhu. :P

True Madness prevails on these reality shows. Imagine, there were 16000 girls and their families who were keen to a part of this drama despite knowing the “Deeds” of the “To-be Drama King”!! Amazing! :-?

  11. Pal on February 4, 2010 at 7:21 pm

Oh Goddd….will this attyachar never end? How can 16000 women be so brainless? Beats me!! Good post, LR. Very good!

  12. mani on February 5, 2010 at 1:11 am

God! Emotional Atyachar? Is it really? I didn’t know.Whose atyachar? the audience’s? No Bind Ass tv we are not interested in anybodies private lives.

  13. MRC on February 12, 2010 at 7:49 am

That “Emotional Atyachar” show is a copy of another cheap reality show on US television, called “Cheaters”. The difference is that in the US version, they actually follow people around to catch them in the act! Each of these so called reality shows tries to outdo the competition in sinking to new depths..I think the people who participate in them have some serious self esteem issues, and those of us who watch are seriously bored :)

  14. Varun D on February 7, 2011 at 12:49 pm

Yes, it is a complete copy of Cheaters, but with one huge difference. Cheaters (atleast to me) seems to be unscripted pure shitty reality based show, because in some of the episodes the “cheaters” face’s were blurred out because they have all the right to decide if their faces should be showed on TV or not.

Legally if you follow a person around recording them, you can be in a LOT of shit! But our Indian version does not seem to address that issue at all :) and some of the “victims” and cheaters have been on many other Bindas shows like Love Lockup, Dadagiri (the 2nd boy to girl slap) etc. They are either actors, or have been selected on contract and 70% of it is scripted (somewhat intelligently).
