DSC00587 thumb Aval Urundai /Poha Laddu – Visual Recipe Aval Urundai (அவல் உருண்டை) or Poha laddu is an easy to make sweet dish. Believe me it just takes less than 10 minutes to make! Not just that it also makes a healthy indulgence.

Ingredients:

Poha (flattened rice) – 3 Cups

Grated Coconut – 1 cup

Sugar – Half cup or as per taste (you can use sugar substitute if you are on strict no-sugar diet)

Step1:

Slightly roast Poha in a tawa. (In the picture, I have used red rice poha, you can use the commonly available white poha instead)

That was really an easy recipe. Hey the poha needs to be north indian or south indian because both have a lot of difference, one is hard and the other soft.

Abhilash, I prefer south indian poha but it is good in north Indian poha too :)

    Hi,

If the hard red poha is used, does it become soft by roasting? No soaking required?

LR – the photos are very nice, although am not the biggest fan of aval. My grandma used vellam/jaggery for this. The family loved aval kesari. I recently came across a super easy recipe for “phirni” with poha. I’ll mail it to you. My folks love poha upma best…what with the living-in-Mumbai half our lives connection
