3 Idiots Review

Threeidiots2 thumb 3 Idiots Review 3 Idiots in the movie are actually 3 intelligent beings – Rancho, Farhan and Raju who charged up by the main idiot Baba Ranchodas as friends calls Rancho affectionately, charters a path that breaks the stereotype expectations that society and the cruel cut throat competitive education system burdens the students.

Farhan’s  (Madhavan) fate is sealed right when he was born. His parents decide that he should be an engineer. Though he is passionate about pursuing a career in wild life photography, his family has different plans imposed on him.  Raju Rastogi (Sharman Joshi) on other hand is weighed down by a family baggage – a paralyzed father, mother barely managing to meet ends, a sister in marriageable age. The family’s hope of better life is in the hands of Raju Rastogi – the engineer to be. The fear of the expectations, future, the pressure cooker type competition in college takes a toll on his academics. Everyone would have seen or heard a typical Farhan or Raju in our life. Then we have Rancho whose passion lies on engineering but is non-conformist to the existing system of education. He drives his friends to chase excellence and passionate about what we do rather than run a rat race for ranks and grades. Then we have the Principal Viru Sahastrabuddhe (mockingly called virus by students) who believes that life is a race and one has to push down others to win the race. When the 3 idiots enters the college headed by Virus it sets loose a laughter riot all the way along with some powerful message that goes into you like a tonic mixed in nectar. That is the plus point of the movie. It does not preach you with heavy weight dialogues rather with some rib tickling laughter mixed with touching emotions make you think and identity yourselves with the 3 idiots. If you already dragged yourselves in the rat race , it makes you think back about the passion you once had.

The director Rajkumar Hirani wins hands down by making this passionate movie loosely based or rather say inspired by Chetan Bhagat’s “Five Point Someone”. After Munnabhai series, he wins once again the hearts, minds and the box office and he well deserve all the appreciation. This is yet another “Taare Zameen Par” for Aamir Khan. We know that he is an excellent actor and the move reiterates that he is no idiotic actor but one intelligent actor when it comes to selecting scripts. This must be one of the most memorable movie for Sharman Joshi and Madhavan in their careers. What to say about Boman Irani? The role is tailor made for him and in contemporary Bollywood actors only he can justify such roles. Kareena does not have much to do in this movie that completely belongs to 3 Idiots and the dean but still she is beautiful on screen.

The cinematography is crisp, clean, fresh and visually appealing. Music my Shantanu Moitra is impressive especially the numbers “Aal Izz well”, “Zoobi Doobi” and “Give me some sunshine”

GingerChai Verdict: A wonderful, brilliant movie to end year 2009. Don’t miss it.

No doubt this movie is one of the best comedy movie of 2009 but in the end, the delivery of a child scene dragged the movie which could have been avoided or edited.

I had decided to not watch this movie, only because I am not a fan of Chetan Bhagat as a ‘writer’. But with so many outstanding reviews of this movie, I cant wait to see it now.

    Happy Nuu Year, LR :-)
