Avantika Ahuja (Kareena Kapoor) returns to India to pursue her education in Delhi University so that she can be with her father who suffers a cardiac arrest. Ehsaan (Saif Ali Khan) joins the university as a professor. Ehsaan woos Avantika and finally charms her.  Meanwhile, she has to return to US to complete her education and Ehsaan says he is still traditional in thought and does not believe in long distance marriage so suggests they get married and he would leave his job here and fly with her to US. Avantika is happy with this idea. Inspite of the reluctance of her father, Avantika marries Ehsaan and they land up in US. They settle in an south Asian neighbourhood where they are befriended by a Muslim family living next door.

Soon the drama unfolds and Avantika comes to know that she is being used in a larger game plan. The neighbours family of Naseer Ahmed (Om puri) and Jaanu (Kiron kher) along with the other members are terrorist and Ehsaan also part of the group. He had used Avantika to enter US. Meanwhile, Riyaaz (Vivek Oberai) works in a media house, his beau is Rehana (Dia Mizra) Rehana dies in an airplane bomb blast masterminded by Ehsaan & co. Riyaaz receives the voice message that Avantika has left in Rehana’s phone warning about the bomb blast. Riyaaz, in a very cinematic fashion,  instead of disclosing this clue to the police wants to deal with the killers himself.. Meanwhile Ehsaan & co plans a serial blast in metro stations. Unknowing to Avantika and Ehsaan himself, Naseer Ahmed has hidden a bomb remote controlled by Jaanu to make Avantika a suicide bomber. So what happened to Avantika ? Did Riyaaz manage to stop the serial blasts? What happened to Ehsaan makes the climax of the movie.

The movie reminds you of Amir Khan’s movie “Fanaa” and “New York”. The plot has been heavily borrowed from both the movies and few scenes like Naseer testing Riyaaz by asking him to shoot a white guy in a restaurant and seizing the mobile phone from Riyaaz in another scene starkly reminds you the recently released movie “New York”.

The movie banks heavily on the real life couple Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor. But is that enough to carry a whole movie? The answer is NO.

Music by Salim-Sulaiman is good especially the numbers “Ali Maula”, “Kurbaan hua” and “Shukran Allah”

The climax especially with the sentimental conflict in the mind of Ehsaan to save Avantika is truly bollywood formula and puts the brake on the pace of the movie.

GingerChai verdict: Definitely not a love story as the movie claims “Some love stories have blood in them”. A thriller movie that reminds you of “Fanaa” and “New York”. A neat production, good music, nice cinematography but not convincing enough especially in climax.

Most reviews suggest so only. The film starts as serious social drama and veers to becoming a thriller. How hot are the ‘hot’ scenes :P .. if they are really good, then I might give it a try. :D

Fanaa and New York were super hits while Kurbaan at best might do average business – trade reports suggest so. 2012 killed it – wud u believe that !!

If you want to watch the movie only for the “supposed” hot scenes , better skip it :p

Ya 2012 completely bowled out Kurbaan! That must be a googly for KJo.

Infact, Newyork storyline was good. Here the movie tag line was “Some love stories are made in blood” and when you watch the movie you will realize it’s not a love story. someone in production team was confused for sure.

Saif and kareena together may bring some, but there are some whoa re avoiding it also because of them.

This topic is so sensitive that movie has to be realgood and slick to be liked by all,as was Fana.

Ya most of the reviews give similar verdict don’t you think KJo production house should stick to their own genre (Kuch Kuch…) rather than getting more experimental….
