Kadalekai Parishe means Groundnut Festival. It is an annual groundnut fair that is held on the last monday of Karthika Masa (according to the Hindu Calendar) near the Bull temple in Basavangudi area of Bangalore.
I made a visit on the last day of this year’s fair. The fair brought a village ambience within a city and made me realize that within every city lives a village!
Farmers from various parts of Karnataka and adjacent districts of Tamilnadu flock the fair with their harvested peanuts. After the offerings to the Bull deity, they sell their groundnuts in the fair. Plain groundnuts, roasted groundnuts, salted .. you can go nuts of your choice!
He is the lead man of GingerChai and plays the multi role of chief author, editor, business development and also of a chaiwala! (Tea maker!) He is the master brewer at Ginger Chai.
Amazing pictures. Made me relive my childhood in Hanumanthanagar.
I think you said it the best when you said it ushers in a village atmosphere.
Meandered in from Indivine ; will promote it there, this is something people ought to see and appreciate. The photos do justice to the fair.
@rocksea,
The monicker is ‘Ground nut Fair’ and there are varieties of ground nuts ; but you do see elements of a typical fare like the baloons, festivities, cotton candies et al. It is a marvellous fair that happens in a small area — mostly busy thoroughfares that get shut down for vehicular traffic…
Thanks ! Actually it was you who made me dig into plugins and find this application for the photospeaks when you kept saying something is “missing” so the credit goes to you for driving me to better things!
A Fair for Nuts??? Interesting.
