And the Nobel prize for peace goes to…

nobel peace prize

THE BLOGGING COMMUNITY”

Yes, judging by this year’s noble prize committee criteria for peace category, we, bloggers very well qualify for the award.

Predominant of us write peace. We write against war. We write for social cause. We are a global voice for local cause. We, Write, We believe the now famous “Yes, We Can” much before Obama popularized it. So Blogging community deserves the Noble Prize. Oh, yes, like Obama our intentions are clear too. Though, apart from writing, we may not have much positive impact on ground level. Still, our intentions are clear like Obama. He talks. We write. So are we not in a same scale? I would say we are in a much higher scale.

The Nobel Committee announced in Oslo that it has awarded the annual peace prize to Barack Obama, just nine months into his presidency, “for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples.”

Wait … It applies to us, bloggers too. Obama is doing it for nine months but we have been doing it for more than a decade now. Through, our writing, we have broke the barriers of national boundaries and voiced as a global citizen.

“He has created a new international climate,”

We have created the new international climate, much before Obama talked and talked, in each global platform on the utopian dream of universal brotherhood, even if the ground reality did not change any further. Afghanistan remains the same. Gaza strip remains the same. Pakistan remains the same. Terrorist remains the same. Peace talks remain the same, just in talking rooms.

I have no qualms against Mr. Obama. He is energetic. He is charismatic. His sound bytes are nice. (He can even hit a mosquito) Nine months into Whitehouse, he has vowed audience across the world with his oratory skills. But my question is “Is that enough to bag the Nobel peace prize?” Many of his policies are yet to yield results. So the prize is in anticipation of what can happen in future, rather than what has been achieved. I would have cheered, if his talks have translated to actions and his intentions proved by deeds in bringing a degree of peace at least in Iraq or Afghanistan or able to rein in the ISI or peace in Middle east or at least peace in Somalian waters… (*sighs*)  and then he is awarded the Nobel. At this point of time, It seems, the Nobel committee got carried away by his personality and talks rather than analyzing the merits and ground realities.

Indeed a brilliant decision by the adjudicators….in this extremely nuisance-filled world, efforts of USA to bring solidarity is commendable. Infact this award is an encouragement to the US Admin that they are on track. Obama have to be appreciated for his sincerity. Now he has to justify the award…as for award to bloggers I am ready to share the booty with u all!cheers

Nobel prize is not given as an encouragement rather it is given for acomplished feat. In that yardstick, Obama has to yet fullfil the promises he has made and the talks into action. The committee could have waited till then. We cannot give and award and wait for the person to justify it.

And thanks for sharing the booty Smile

I agree with Lakshmi. Infact the whole world agrees that Obama does not deserve it. A survey done in his home city shows that 80% of the respondents felt he did not deserve it. [Grin] What else is there to say now.

This is like selling a Mercedes Benz to a newborn baby, professing confidence in the babe that it would become a successful businessman and pay for it sometime in the future.

Frankly speaking, I have no admiration for this whole Nobel thing anyway… but this is utter crap.

Yes…even Obama said he does not desrve the Award but accepts it as ‘a call for action’, so much of the man’s ‘peaceful’ character…so how many of you remember who got peace awards in 2008, or 2007. This time the citation of the Award to incumbent US President has risen world’s expectations from the country. Hope his ‘call for action’ matures into reality some day…atleast he is earnestly trying.

Well, what Obama said was “politically correct”, what else one could expect to say? My argument is simple: You don’t give an award in anticipation of things to come. You only give it, when something is done practically.
