He had a gruesome job. He was a soldier.
He ‘extracted’ information from stubborn POWs. He caused excruciating physical pain, and then he ‘extracted’ information.
His heart stopped and his eyes widened when his latest prisoner said:
“… .. The tables have turned; it just seemed like yesterday that I was pushing you around in the schoolyard…”

Quite an unexpected ending. Good One
Thank you!
nice one!
Quite a different type of 55-Fiction
touching end…..
Thats a bullseye at the first attempt
Not agreed! Fatal flaw…not setting the piece roperly. Unbelievable in the context. Which war, which country? At least a word or needed is it the Balkans, Kosovo, NWFP-Afghanistan, rural Burma?
BTW interrogation of prisoners is not a job of combat soldiers but of special police/intelligence. Calling this guy a soldier is being factually incorrect.
To learn to depict the horrors of war requires one to experience it or deeply study it.
Author needs to review his domain knowledge carefully even if it’s just for 55 Fiction! Or especially if its for 55 Fiction as the genre is so hard hitting…
I’d like to add – these kinds of scenes happen only in places where you have warlords and local militias and great animosities. Its genocide. Its definitely not “WAR”!
