Music: Pritam

Distribution: Yash Raj Films

You have seen right hand batsmen, you have seen left hand batsmen – now watch right and left hand batsmen err Punjabi kudi, Veera played by Rani Mukherji.

The story is set in a village of Punjab bordering the wagah border. Veera is an ordinary Punjabi girl who loves cricket. She not just loves the game but can play like Shewag too. Anupam Kher owns a cricket team that plays every year against a Pakistani team in a Friendship tournament only to loose. So he asks his NRI son Rohan (Shahid Kapoor) who is a county cricketer in England to return to captain and train the team for the next tournament. Meanwhile, Veera disguises as Veer Pratap Singh and makes entry into the team after proving her cricket skills. Meanwhile Rohan falls in love with Veera and in climax during the match, he realizes Veer and Veera are same and the movie ends with some emotional moments and victory of the Indian team.

Rani Mukherji is impressive in the male disguise. Though as a heroine she does not make a great pair with Shahid Kapoor. After intense performance in “Kaminey”, Shahid does not have much to do in this movie. It’s more of a Rani Mukherji movie than a Shahid Kapoor movie. Rakhi Sawant comes as a dancer of the village dance troupe and shakes her body in couple of songs.

The movie has all the formula of the Yash Chopra movie. It’s high time they start thinking away from their age old formula that clicked well in 90’s. The Punjab village, dressing, music… it’s fully loaded with taste of Punjab and typical Yash formula. Of late, Punjab seems to be the toast of Bollywood and I find it getting boringly repetitive.

Music by Pritam except for the title track fails to impress.

If the director thought Cricket could be a good attraction in our cricket crazy nation, he failed to execute the plot well. The story plot of a woman disguising as a man in sports could have been handled well without the archaic bollywood masala.

GingerChai Verdict: An average entertaining movie from the staples of Yash Chopra with the usual masala. A good plot wasted but makes a one time watch for time pass.

I don't know why but could be because i am a Shahid fan and have a soft corner for Rani that I wanted this movie to be a hit but it looks like its gonna be a flop or an average one. I find your blog pretty interesting and the blog almost looks like a magazine dishing out various kinds of literary recipes. Keep it up.

Do check out my latest post. Am sure you won't be disappointed. =)

what a crap movie…magine to beleive that hero is nt recognising heroine, who interestingly, happens to be Rani. What bachha do the filmmaker cosiders the audience. Interesting that although the film had heavy publicity YR and Aditya Chopra were absent from the promos. They have also anticipated the fate of the movie.

The promos of the movie really didnot look that promising…still being a Rani fan would watch the movie :D
