Left , Right , Left , Right

One fine day ,  some 8 months back ,  our neighbourhood main road was greeted by this board :

We were overjoyed seeing the board coz it meant that  the much awaited civic amneties work have started in our area !

They started digging the main road of our neighbourhood . Well , they were laying  massive underground  pipes.  There were inconvenience but then I did not mind it coz it was for the betterment for our area !  The work went on and on and on … and finally there were no signs of work progress. The work got stalled for some legal issue.

Then after few months I saw it being dug again – this time its some telephone company. Red , yellow , blue – cables of all colors were opened up , piled up and laid back . End result ?

Left , Right , Left , Right ,

Dig , Fill , Dig , Fill,

Left , Right ,Left , Right ,

Dig , Fill ,Dig , Fill

Once they finished , there was a quiet in the road. No digging . No filling.

But it was short lived. One day we woke up to huge machineries occupying the already ruined road.

They started digging ferociously . Big pipes were brought in . Pits made , Pits filled and so the same old story :

Left , Right , Left , Right ,

Dig , Fill , Dig , Fill,

Left , Right ,Left , Right ,

Dig , Fill ,Dig , Fill

Then one day , I saw gravel being filled . Thank God ! seems to be a final moment of reckoning have come for our road !

Oh wait … its not supposed to be , I saw the board ” Work in Progress ” again. This time some other civic agencies.

and so the good old anthem was played again :

Left , Right , Left , Right ,

Dig , Fill , Dig , Fill,

Left , Right ,Left , Right ,

Dig , Fill ,Dig , Fill

After a week or so , they filled again the now reduced to rubble road with some more rubble.

What a nightmare !!

Somewhere during November end there was a news in local paper that by December end all the work would be done and the roads laid. I was excited reading it … but December gone , new year greeted , first month bid bye and the valentine month have started till no end to our ordeal.

By now , people in our neighbourhood have become champions of  dirt racing . At least am  ready for dirt racing championship.

OK seems like finally the long wait is coming to an end . Seems like the final phase of road work have started with the foundation of road being laid now. In process they have broke down few of the newly laid manhole covers. I wonder if they would dig the newly laid road again for fixing the manhole cover ….. the way they plan things …. they would dig it soon after !!! so the anthem never ceases
