Compulsive Documentation Disorder
The credit for coining the term Compulsive Documentation Disorder should go to me. Of course the man who made me invent the term is my friend. Observing him made me figure out this syndrome.
So the protagonist of this topic happens to be my friend who runs a small IT company. He is a simple nice guy , perfectionist dedicated to his profession. He has this habit of writing down everything. He documents everything in his life, from his personal noting to professional happenings. Ok, you might wonder what is wrong in it? Well, read more.
Our protagonist starts the day with writing down the agenda of the day. Good. It’s a good way to plan the day. He pulls out the previous day’s agenda, where he would have written tomorrow’s agenda. From the tomorrow’s agenda he will copy the same to today’s agenda. Ok, you may say it’s a very good way of planning things in spite of small hardship of copying the agenda again. Wait , the story doesn’t ends here. Then he writes the same in another note where he plans the whole week’s plan. Effectively copying the same agenda third time. Oh don’t mistake when I meant copy he does copy paste in word document in computer. He actually writes down in pen and paper in three different books the same thing . Then he feeds the same in outlook express !!!! Then he has a log book , where he writes down each minute of the day. He has given a log book to each of his employees to keep a log of all their activities in the day. The heights of my observation were he writes down all the smses in his inbox!!! Right from simple single word “hi” ,”good morning” to forward smses to everything in his inbox with all the details of name , phone number , time , date . If there is hi , good morning etc from the same person he will write down untiringly the person’s name and phone number again and again each time !!!
Suppose he works 10 hours , he spends easily 5 hours writing down , rewriting down copying the same in notes and computers and going through the documentations. Then he complains that the productivity of the team is down. Ofcourse, when he spends that much time in his own cabin and people waiting for his presence for clarifications and speeding work process , productivity tends to suffer.
So this inspired me to coin the term “Compulsive Documentation Disorder“
