My Wife Blogs. Rather i should say , used to blog. Infact our blogs brought us together. We were fans of each other’s blogs and we eventually married. ( no , this is not the blog i used to write those days , that is a different one which i have subsequently abandoned. ) I really liked her blogging style , it will make anyone who reads sport a big smile !
These days she stopped blogging and i asked her why dont you start writing again ?!
She answered ” I am having a writers block “
I was like bit confused . To be frank , it was the first time i came across the term ” writers block ” Infact at first i mistook block for blog and she has to spell it right for me to make me understand . Next day , she showed a comic strip where a character too was suffering from writers block ! I always knew she has a great comic character in her , so now am assured seriously she is also suffering from writers block like that comic character.
I googled to find out more about writers block.
Wiki says :
Writer’s block is a phenomenon involving temporary loss of ability to begin or continue writing, usually due to lack of inspiration or creativity.
Now this is interesting . This threw a new light on my understanding of my wife’s writers block case study.
My revelation : Writing is linked to post marriage syndrome. Am sure , my wife is suffering from post marriage syndrome . Its unavoidable when you have spouse like yours truly. So now i have to find ways to “inspire” her to write.
Then i stumbled upon an article about Alice Flaherty , a Harvard Medical School neurologist , who started writing following the death of her premature twins. She says ” “I was flooded with ideas that I had to write about immediately,” she recalls. “I couldn’t do anything else for four months.” Now , that means at times depression also could lead to a state of compulsive writing. A year later , she gave birth to premature twins and again this time she was in a compulsive writing mood. So is that means mood swings can lead to compulsive writing ?!!! .Her second book ” The Midnight Disease ” is an acclaimed book dealing with the subjects of compulsive writing and writers block.
After reading this article on Alice am sure about one thing : Am suffering from Compulsive writing technically known as hypergraphia and my wife is suffering from writers block.
When i get time , i should grab a copy of “ The Midnight Disease ” and learn more about it . This subject seems to be interesting and would help me diagonise if am suffering from any syndrome. Its not that am complaining about compulsive writing but then its nice to know about one’s own syndrome . May be this will help you guys understand me better in a smaller dose :p
